What we look for...
Insulation Type
Insulation is critical in our climate, and can make or break the efficiency of your heating system. We'll check the type of insulation and gather info on it's condition. Deteriorated or improperly installed insulation is ineffective.
Attic Insulation. A good amount of insulation, with the vapor barrier on the underside. This is what we like to see.
Construction Materials
Assessing the materials that construct your basement is ciritical to understanding your structure and how it interacts with the elements outside.
We'll help you to understand our findings.
Stone Foundation basement. These basements are generally damper than modern block wall foundations, and may not be a great fit if your plan is to put up walls and finish the space.
Damage & Past Repairs
We are trained in how to spot damage and past repairs. Past repairs may indicate a resolved or a continuing issue.
A damaged ridge beam. This is the beam at the very top of the rood structure. It must support a great deal of pressure holding the roof together, and should be strong and in good shape.
Water Intrusion
Water intrusion is a home's worst enemy, and foundations are among the first places that excess water will work it's way into.
We know how to spot water intrusions and their common causes, and we can help you understand our findings.
Water stains in an attic. Water stains indicate that there may an ongoing or resolved water intrusion. Seeing this would warrant further investigation.
