Fireplace & Chimney Inspection
What we look for...

Damaged or Missing Flashing
We are trained in how to spot damage missing or damaged chimney flashing, a critical, yet often incorrectly installed (or completely missing!) component.
Past repairs can sometimes be indicative of recurring problems or improper construction.
Missing Flashing. This upper right is missing a piece of flashing, which is supposed to keep water out.
Rain Caps & Other Components
Rain caps, crowns, flues, cleanouts, and dampers are the main components of a chimney. We will inspect to make sure they are present and in good shape.

Missing Rain Cap. A rain cap should be on top of this crown to keep rain, wildlife, and other debris from entering the chimney

Deteriorated Components
Nothing lasts forever, and that's okay. We are trained to spot signs of deterioration and in common causes, ensuring we know where to look and how to interpret what we see.
Deteriorated flashing. This flashing is severely corroded, and sealed in with caulking. Caulking is never permanent and this should be sealed permanently with mortar. This type of quick fix will generally indicate a past (or ongoing) water intrusion.
